Episode 3 — The Four Exam Priorities: security, availability, performance, and cost tradeoffs
Most CloudNetX decisions can be explained through four priorities that compete in predictable ways: security, availability, performance, and cost. This episode defines each priority in operational terms so you can recognize which one dominates a scenario. Security focuses on reducing trust, narrowing access paths, enforcing strong identity, and ensuring activity is observable through logs and monitoring. Availability focuses on removing single points of failure, designing for failover behavior, and aligning architecture to recovery targets such as RTO and RPO. Performance focuses on understanding latency, packet loss, jitter, and throughput as distinct constraints and choosing designs that support the workload’s sensitivity. Cost focuses on right-sizing, limiting recurring operational overhead, avoiding wasted capacity, and preventing surprise consumption patterns that destabilize budgets.
